Opinion: 2016 KCSE: Matiang'i unearthed cheating schools
, by Daniel Many
Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i.

Imagine you going to a school which last year had 50 A grades, 100 A- grades and 150 B+ grade only to find a paltry 1 A, 4 A- and 9 B+. What will you think of that school?

Or to ask more pointedly, what will you think of the principal of that school? Your answer is as good as mine. Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i confirmed that students have been stealing exams in the previous years and they were doing this under the pressure of rogue school principals. They were interested in marketing their schools for monetary gains at the expense of quality education.

Now that only 141 students scored straight A grades countrywide, where will these rogue principals, who were helping their students to cheat in the previous exams, bury their heads?

In 2015, 2,636 students scored A grade.
