The County government of Nyamira is dedicated to support needy students from the community who excel in national exams, County Secretary Erick Onchana has said.

Onchana's remarks comes after the county government, through ward offices, issued bursary forms in which thousands of students are set to benefit from the county's first bursary allocations.

Speaking on Friday during awarding of scholarships to 13 students selected from the county under Equity Bank's Wings to Fly programme, Onchana urged MCAs to enuresis only deserving cases benefit.

"The government is keen to ensure needy students are assisted to complete their education. We rolled out bursary program this year and I am confident that many of needy children will be factored in," he said.

"We issued forms to MCAs and I am sure they will target only needy cases. I am grateful to what Equity is doing across the country. We need to empower our children for future sustainability," he added.

Last year, the county passed a legislation which would allow the county government to use at least 5 percent of its annual budget for bursaries scheme.
