Ten people were killed while 30 others sustained injuries after Nairobi-bound bus collided head-on with a lorry near Garissa town.

According to survivors, the lorry was using the wrong lane since part of the road was closed for repairs.

According to medical officers at the Garissa Referral Hospital, the dead included five children and five adults.

The nursing officer in charge Hassan Mohamed confirmed the receipt of the bodies.

He said three of the children who died — aged seven, four and eight months — were traveling with their mother, who was critically injured.

Hassan said out of the 30 who were injured, five were in critical condition and were referred to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialised treatment.
