Geoff Gichana, a Hivisasa writer based in Kisii, covered the story after he was alerted of the situation by teachers and members of the community within Sensi Ward. Geoff reported that apart from the collapsing toilets, the school had only thee functional classrooms, as the rest have already begun to fall apart.

Barely a week after Hivisasa.com highlighted the collapsing buildings and toilets, the toilets were demolished and the public demanded to know whether there had been any funds allocated for infrastructure in the school, by the county government.

They asked the area member of parliament, Jimmy Angwenyi, to give education first priority. The story was then picked up by several local radio stations in Kisii and also shared widely on various WhatsApp groups.

Residents held debates regarding the state of school facilities in the region. Alumni of the school based in the United States heard about the story and came together and contributed money towards the construction of eight new toilets.

The alumni coordinated these efforts with area MCA Paul Angwenyi. The new toilets will be completed in time for the reopening of schools for the second term.
