A resident of Mikindani in Jomvu, Mombasa County has written an open letter to are MCA Renson Thoya and Governor Ali Hassan Joho.
This follows hiked bus fares especially this period that the County is experiencing a heavy downpour.

Below is the letter exactly as shared on a local Facebook group, Mikindani Peeps, on Friday, eliciting mixed reactions:
"To: MCA Thoya Renson cc: Hon. Ali Hassan Joho
RE: MIKINDANI FARE HIKE
Dear sir, Mikindani people/commuters are suffering each and every day whenever there is traffic jam or small rains.
This comes in as matatu drivers collude with their conductors to hike fares which people normally pay 50/- either from mikindani to town or vise vasa.
Its common sense to state that some Matatu owners stay at Mikindani -meaning they know that there is jam on the way- why do they steal from commuters to meet their daily target??? Can't they explain to their bosses that there was either jam or accident etc, Jomvu and Miritini Matatus do pass through Mikindani sometimes and you find that they are charging 50/- at late evening whereas Mikindani Mat is charging 100/150.
Mariakani mat do charge 100/- Why are they robbing & punishing commuters? Are they responsible for rains or jam...? Has Mikindani distance changed? Isn't this theft and greed???Hon Thoya, come clean on this sir.
Two weeks ago you stand with them fighting for stage allocation at town, We kindly ask you to stand with commuters too! They're suffering! Are they hustling for matatu fares only?Some are single parents, they have kids at school, bills to clear every month.
