The head of state presided over the national holiday while donning military regalia.

This did not sit well with controversial lawyer and socio-political commentator Miguna Miguna who took umbrage at what the president wore for the occasion, calling it a "Halloween costume."

"The Tyrant Uhuru Kenyatta in Halloween Costume (he has never even been a member of the NYS or Boy Scouts, leave alone the military and he is ignorant of the fact that JAMHURI is a CIVILIAN EVENT; not a military/authoritarian one ), his Deputy and two cowardly Renegades - Raila Odinga andKalonzo Musyoka..." Miguna Miguna's post read in part.

Miguna has been relentless in his criticism of the Uhuru-led administration, accusing it of harbouring dictatorial tendencies.

He was first deported to Canada on February 6 for playing a significant role in the mock inauguration of opposition leader Raila Odinga.
