The youthful taxi driver identified as Brian Mbulu was reportedly shot in the face after he raised an alarm on witnessing the robbery which took place around 9.30 pm.

Confirming the incident, Kitui County Police Commandant Lydia Ligami said the gang struck as Charles Musyoki, the proprietor of Miss Hallo Charo Enterprises closed his shop.

“They shot at his shop’s door then robbed him of the cash before making a getaway. The taxi driver encountered them as they fled the scene but was fatally shot in the face as he attempted to raise alarm,” Ligami said.

The victim, she said, succumbed to the gunshot wounds while receiving treatment at Kitui County Referral hospital.

The police boss said detectives immediately launched manhunt for the criminals and assured the business community and town dwellers of beefed-up security.

“CID officers have since recovered two spent cartridges and two bullet heads from the scene of the crime to necessitate ballistic analysis as we close in on the gang,” Ligami told Hivisasa.

The body of the slain taxi driver was taken to Kitui County Referral Hospital’s mortuary pending a post-mortem.
