Businesses disrupted in Elburgon as demos rock sleepy town

Businesses in Elburgon came to a standstill after residents stormed the streets to lament over the poor state of roads in the sleepy town.

Residents complained area MP Jacob Macharia has failed to fix roads in the area.

"We are tired of tourist leaders who cannot fix our problems. The other day they launched a toilet and claimed it costed millions. They are eating our money," a protestor said.

Roads in the area are impassable and resident said the area Member of County Assembly (MCA) and MP have neglected them.

John Maina, a bodaboda rider, said their business has been badly affected as they can no longer ferry passengers around.

Elburgon used to be a great town during the era of saw millers, however, the business collapsed leaving it to a shadow of its former glory.

No major development projects have been achieved by political leaders even after the new system of devolution.

Area MP Jacob Macharia and MCA Florence Njoroge could not be reached for this article.
