A Standard One pupil at Misambi Primary School in Bokeira ward, North Mugirango constituency, Vincent Mobegi is appealing for help after developing an abnormal growth on his left cheek.
Master Mobegi's condition was brought to the attention of the county assembly by the leader of Majority, Laban Masira on Tuesday last week.
According to his mother Grace Gichemba, the boy started developing the abnormal growth early this year.
She said in 2014, doctors at Nyanchwa hospital removed one of the eyes which had developed complications when they realised it had a serious problem which could not be treated.
She said the seven-year-old boy was fine after the surgery but early this year, she discovered a little swelling on his cheek which has continued growing daily.
"I took him to Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital where he was referred to Kenyatta National Hospital for urgent surgery and I don't have any cash for the operation," said Gichemba.
Speaking on the phone to this writer, Nyamira County Chief Officer of Health Douglas Bosire asked the mother to take her child back to Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital for re-admission where he said she will be assisted with the boy's referral to KNH.
"We are ready to assist as the county, we have asked the family to bring the boy back to the hospital so that we can we organize on how he will be taken to KNH by our ambulance and see if we can assist his admission there while the funding is being organised," said Bosire.
On his part, Masira appealed to the assembly, through the chair for Health committee Caren Atuya to move with speed and do an inquiry on the cost of the surgery and ask well-wishers to help the needy boy.
