Nyamira Senator Kennedy Mong'are has called upon the county government of Nyamira to name the newly proposed university in honour of former Kitutu Masaba MP the late George Anyona Moseti.
Speaking at the late Anyona’s home in Tombe ward Kitutu Masaba when he opened a memorial and library center, Mong’are said it is important for the county government to remember the late Anyona who fought for multipartyism in Kenya and so deserves to be honoured.
He wants the varsity called George Anyona Moseti University.
During the occasion, the Senator also donated books to the library.
“Today as we celebrate Mashujaa Day, we have come here so that we can remember our heroes, I urge the county government of Nyamira under the leadership of (Governor John) Nyagarama to make sure the proposed university is named after Anyona,” said Mong’are
He at the same time called on Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero to name Dunga Road in favour of the late Anyona
Mong'are added if Kidero does not heed to his plea, he will mobilise Kisii people living are in Nairobi to vote out Kidero in the 2017 general election.
"We urge the Nairobi Governor to implement the policy by naming the road after Anyona. there are more than 300,000 Kisiis who can vote him out if he fails to honour our shujaas," said Mongare
The late Anyona was among those who were detained during Jomo Kenyatta regime during the scramble for multipartyism.
He died in a road accident in 2003 aged 57.
