Gor Mahia FC coach Jose Marcelo Ferreira has spoken out after his team lost their final match of the KPL season against Tusker FC who were eventually crowned champions.
K'Ogalo headed into the match having already lost the title to the brewers in a game that was seen as a dead rubber but a win could have helped them end the season on a high note.
However, it was not to be as Allan Wanga came off the bench to score the only goal of the match to compound the former champions' disappointing season.
Despite looking the better side for most of the match, the 15-times KPL champions went home failed to collect points.
Speaking after the match, the Brazilian coach admitted his side lost the duel due to low motivation as the title race was already over.
"There was no motivation as the league ended two weeks ago," he said.
"This match was like a training for my players. We played well, created a lot of chances but did not score. They had one or two shots and scored. We now have to focus on next season. We have to start preparations early, the team has to start well next year. We lost 11 points in the last five matches of the season which was not good at all."
Gor Mahia who won the league for three consecutive seasons finished the campaign disappointingly having also lost the Top 8 KPL title to Muhoroni Youth.
For a club like Gor Mahia where the bar has been set very high, finishing at the second place is not considered success and it is up to the coach to take the team back where it belongs.
