The awarding of Western Stima midfield sensation Kenneth Muguna Mugambi as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the year has elicited mixed reactions from football fanatics with majority claiming the 20-year-old did not deserve the award.
Critics said the youngster did not do anything special to warrant the prestigious award and that he was favored.
Prior to the award ceremony, Tusker FC's midfield Dynamo was the best to clinch the award which comes with Sh1 million cash.
However, Stima coach Henry Omino defended him, saying he deserved it due to his impressive performance during the 2016 season.
He said the nominations were done on merit
"First, I would like to say that the nominations were done in the most transparent way. The first take and the last take were very fair and I think that the final decision was the right one. Everyone can have his or her own opinion and I respect them. However, the most important thing is that he (Kenneth Muguna) played very well as it was his first appearance and he got Midfielder of the Year," he said.
Muguna who played 28 times for his side scored four goals is angling to move to Europe.
Former KPL champions, Gor Mahia are also interested in him.
