The formerly sweet Orange is becoming bitter and splitting prematurely.
In case the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party disintegrates, the greatest loser will be Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.
The end of ODM will mark the death of Joho politically.
The governor must fix everything that threatens the unity of ODM, therefore, taming the Odinga dynasty is key to his future.
There are many relatives to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who are seeking elective posts on an ODM ticket. To make matters worse, some have chosen to confront Raila's allies in the coming polls.
This is threatening to break the party and consequently Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD).
If the eight plus Odinga family members vie as anticipated, then the defections that will follow will leave ODM a family party.
Joho might be re-elected but his presidential dreams will be mere wishes, as one can not vie for president with a party that has been reduced to the level of a family party.
Raila's daughter, Rosemary Odinga, will vie in Kibera to stump out Ken Okoth.
However, her decision will go against the plans of Raila’s 2013 presidential campaign manager Eliud Awalo, who is also eyeing the seat.
Another relative is Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo who will seek another term in parliament on an ODM ticket.
Raila’s elder brother Oburu Odinga has decided to go for the Bondo parliamentary seat while his sister and Kisumu’s deputy governor Ruth Odinga seeks to oust her boss Jack Ranguma.
The Kisumu gubernatorial seat is also being eyed by Raila’s long-term friend Professor Anyang' Nyong’o.
The Orange storm in Siaya is also alarming. Raila’s brother in-law Elkana Odembo wants the Siaya senatorial post while his cousin Carey Rege is targetting the gubernatorial slot in the same county.
There is also a possibility of Raila’s last born Winnie Odinga being nominated to represent youths' interests in parliament.
Joho must fix this or see his ladder to the presidency ruined beyond repair.
He should advice most of Raila’s relatives to quit for the sake of uniting ODM.
