Concerns over entry of plastic rice in Kenya
Concerns have been raised over the alleged entry of plastic rice into the Kenyan market.

According to Tana RiverWater Services Board director Mureithi Kang'ara, unscrupulous businesspersons are alleged to be behind the entry of the rice, something that he said is impoverishing tens of farmers growing the crop.

"Some people are bringing in fake and cheap rice and packaging it as if it is grown in Kenya, especially from Kirinyaga County irrigation schemes,” he said.

The rice that was first detected in Nigeria is said to be sticky when cooked and contains a faint chemical smell
