Parents Association wants parents report schools flouting fees guidelines

Parents have been advised against paying extra school fees, from the stipulated amount.

National Parents Association (NPA) chairman Nicholas Maiyo said some schools had failed to abide by the set guidelines and were charging parents extra fees.

Maiyo warned that a stern action would be taken against rogue heads of schools once investigations prove them wrong.

"In the fees guidelines, students in day secondary schools are expected to pay Sh9,374 and those in boarding schools Sh53,553 while those in special schools will pay Sh 37,210," Maiyo he said, Saturday in Eldoret.

''If any parent is forced to pay more fees, please let us know. We will take stern actions against them,'' he added, Saturday.

The NPA chairman noted that those charging extra fees should first pin letters of authorisation from the Ministry of Education on the schools’ notice boards to demonstrate that the extra charged fees were within the law.

On matters Day School lunch feeding programme that was abolished by the Ministry of Education, Maiyo urged parents to make arrangements, to take lunch in schools for their children.
