The close family ties between President Uhuru Kenyatta’s family and that of retired President Daniel Moi should worry Deputy President, a civil rights activist has observed.
Wahome Thuku says the ripple effect of the relationship between the two families would have ‘severe’ consequences on Ruto’s 2022 presidential ambitions.
Barely a month after Mama Ngina Kenyatta paid a courtesy call Moi, his son, President Uhuru Kenyatta followed suit on Thursday.
“These two families are close and I think the causality in long-term will be Ruto. He should be concerned with the ties more than ever because Uhuru might support Gideon Moi in future,” he said in his Facebook account.
Thuku added: “Politics is about interests and the smartest of all wins. Kenyatta and Moi family are close that you cannot rule out anything.”
Ruto has been at loggerheads with Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, son to the retired president in what many pundits associate with supremacy battles.
In 2002, Senior Moi appointed President Kenyatta as his heir, a move that led to infightings in KANU which eventuality lost to NARC, a collation mainly constituting of the independence party rebels.
Senator Moi is believed to be also eyeing presidency in 2022, a move that could be putting him at loggerheads with DP Ruto.
