Led by Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, the Coast Tanga Tanga legislators had planned to address the press at the Lotus Hotel, but they were chased away by rowdy youths who were armed with stones and other crude weapons.

Jumwa was accompanied by her National Assembly colleagues Mohamed Ali (Nyali), Athman Shariff (Lamu East) and Kilifi Woman Representative Gertrude Mbeyu.

Commenting on the issue, Dida teased the politicians, observing nowadays it was rare for them to be harassed by goons in the absence of the press.

In a tweet on Friday night, the Alliance for Real Change party leader said unlike yesteryear, goons of these days 'loves camera and drama'.

"Funny these goons have never attacked any politician when journalists are not present. l remember during President Kibaki's time, thugs would beat you up at night or in places without crowds. This new breed of goons really loves camera and drama, maybe they just want a photo op," Dida posted.

Speaking to the press after the fracas, Jumwa claimed a section of Mombasa leaders had hired the goons to attack them due to their perceived opposition of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

“What we have seen here today (Friday) depicts the kind of leaders we have in Mombasa and we know this is just part of the plan to frustrate (those) who have different opinions on BBI and we expect more of such sideshows tomorrow (Saturday)," the vocal MP said as quoted by the Nation.
