Speaking on Tuesday morning at Citizen TV, the human rights activist while coming in defence of Bahati legislator Kimani Ngunjiri said the president only wanted the legislator to fear him and not respect him.

He said the lawmaker had not said anything that amounts to insults as claimed by the head of state and instead he has been making very valid concerns.

Okiya Omtata further lamented that BBI should not be making headlines.

"BBI does not deserve to be on the headlines, it is a total misplacement of priorities. We need to understand the distinction between fear & respected; The President wants to be feared, he is not looking for respect," the activist noted.

He further said the handshake and BBI drive should be distinguished noting that the handshake was a personal thing between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga while BBI is something that will affect the country for even about 100 years.
