Ruto's visit came just a day after the Catholic Church leadership banned politics and huge cash donations in their churches.

During the fundraising, Ruto contributed Sh1 million which is against the new rule announced the by Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) on Saturday.

Speaking after making his contribution, Ruto who was accompanied by his allies defended their presence at the church saying they are Christians before being politicians.

"We come to church first because we are Christians. We are leaders and politicians after we are Christians first. And we have come to church because we know God. We have come to praise God (Sisi tunakuja kanisani kwa sababu kwanza sisi ni wakristo Na tunakuja hapa kanisani kwa sababu tunamjua mungu. sisi tumekuja kumuabudu mungu bwana), " Ruto said.

KCCB took the move as a campaign to minimise politics in the church and also to prevent corruption proceeds from being presented to the church as donations and offerings.

A section of Ruto's critics has also questioned the source of the millions of shillings the DP has been donating to churches thus eliciting debates on donations made to churches by politicians.
