IEBC has removed 88,602 dead voters from the registers bringing the total number of registered voters 19,611,423 voters in a bid to ensure the August 8 election is fair.

The commission made the announcement on Tuesday stating that another 4,393 voters from the diaspora in five countries and 5,528 registered in 118 Prisons across the country will participate in the polls, specifically voting for the Presidency.

Commission chairman Wafula Chebukati said the number of registered voters has increased by 36 percent (5,222,642 voters) since 2013.

"The Commission was provided a total of 92,277 records of deceased persons. However, this number was later revised to 88,602 by KPMG," Chebukati said.

The Register of Voters shall be made available online and via SMS for purposes of inspection starting Thursday this week until the Election Day. However, no changes will be made to the final register of voters to be gazetted this week.

According to the figures, Nairobi county has 2,250,853-the highest number of registered voters in any county followed by Kiambu with 1,180,920 voters.Nakuru is third with 949,618 voters followed by Kakamega at number four with 743,736. Meru is fifth with 702,480 voters while Machakos with 620,254 completes the list of top six counties with the highest number of registered voters.

The Coastal county of Mombasa is seventh with 580, 223, followed by Bungoma with 559,850, Kisii 546,580, while Kisumu with 539,210 voters makes it to the top ten devolved units with the highest number of registered voters in the country.
