Involve locals in budget implementation, counties urged

Active involvement of the locals is key to effective implementation of the budgets in the county governments, a budget and policy expert has said.

Jason Lakin who works with the International Budget Partnership on Monday in Nakuru during a sensitisation workshop on effective implementation of the budget said ignoring the locals leads to failure in meeting their prioritised needs.

“Essentially, the locals form part and parcel of the budget formulation and implementation process and how a budget is effective depends on how well their prioritised needs have been met,” he said.

He said county governments should embrace a feedback mechanism in which they receive recommendations from the locals on the progress made in the implementation of the budget.

This way, he said, the leadership could be able to make necessary adjustments to ensure successful completion of the initiated projects addressing the needs of the people.

He said the county governments should cooperate with the public in fostering economic and social development at the grassroots.
