The unity of the Coastal people is key to the prosperity of the region. Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has said.
As a people, Kingi said it is fundamental that they share ideas and resolve to pursue their vision of unity and togetherness so as to develop the region for generations and those to come.
The governor was speaking during a meeting with stakeholders and opinion leaders drawn from Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani (JKP) including Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, who co-chaired the meeting on Saturday.
Their deliberations focused mainly on historical challenges the region has been facing and agreed to have a common front in addressing them.

The leaders discussed how the region should get its rightful share of its resources including the Ports of Mombasa and Lamu, as well as natural resources especially minerals.
The Coast leadership spoke with one voice and agreed to pull their ideologies in the same direction and set up policies that will benefit Coast residents during the meeting at Wild Waters, Mombasa.
"We will work in unison to ensure there is equitable distribution of resources and push for the implementation of key issues affecting the Coastal Mwananchi, the main one being the implementation of the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission, which highlights land injustices being witnessed in our region," said Kingi.
The political leaders present also resolved to rally Coast residents to come out in large numbers to attend the Building Bridges Taskforce stakeholders hearing on Tuesday, November 6, and Wednesday, November 7, that will be held in Kilifi and Mombasa counties respectively.

The meetings will enable Coast residents and leaders to present their issues as a people while advocating for the introduction of a full federal governance system which Governor Kingi said "will see over 80 per cent of our Country’s budget being distributed to counties for better service delivery."
Kingi's sentiments were echoed by Joho, who said "we will continue holding regular engagements as follow up to recommendations made today."
