The August 8, polls are drawing closer and political activity across the country is gaining momentum.

Realignments are taking shape as politicians strategize on how to win the various political positions they are gunning for.

One of the constituencies where political temperatures have already risen is Budalang'i currently represented in Parliament by Ababu Namwamba.

The eloquent lawmaker in July 2016, bolted out of the ODM party that sponsored him to Parliament and relaunched the Labour Part of Kenya, which he will ride on in defending his seat in August.

He fell out with ODM after accusing a section of the party's top leadership of frustrating him as Secretary General.

He has, since then, kept a low profile and has been busy initiating development projects back in Budalang'i.

Some ODM elected leaders, after he left the party promised to de-campaign him ahead of the August polls and ensure he does not win back his seat.

So does he stand re-election?

Ababu is facing a daunting task to recapture his seat.

Already, his former party, ODM, has lined up six aspirants who have declared interest for the seat.

They include Leonard Obimbira, currently Busia County Finance CeC, David Obara, a retired army officer, retired civil servant Andrew Nakitare as well as Albert Gumo, former Chief Executive Officer EPZ.

Others in the Orange race are former Budalang'i MP Raphael Wanjala and US-based businessman Diogratius Adundo.

The six will face-off during the ODM party primaries to select one candidate to vie on the party's ticket.

Jubilee has two candidates- former KPLC Chief Executive Officer Mediatrice Wanjira and businessman Albert Maloba.

Sources indicate Mr Wanjala will most likely triumph during the ODM party primaries. He is closer to ODM party leader Raila Odinga than any other candidate and enjoys a huge following back in Budalang'i having served as Budalang'i MP for two terms.

The constituency is in Busia County where Mr Odinga enjoys massive support.

In the event that Mr Wanjala carries the ODM flag during the polls, Ababu will have to return to the drawing board and restrategize on how to counter all the ODM negative propaganda that will come his way.

Wanjala is a smart politician. During his time as MP, he was among the most active parliamentarians contributing to almost every debate in the House.

He knows Ababu's pockets are well oiled and will, therefore, plunge into the race aware of the kind of opponent he is facing.

On Tuesday sources hinted that Wannjala met Mr Odinga in Nairobi ahead of the party primary elections.

Ababu, on the other hand, knows ODM still enjoys massive support in Budalang'i and will leave no stone unturned when he officially launches his reelection campaign.

So, will carry the day? Ababu or Wanjala? Both politicians enjoy a sizable following in the constituency and besides their prowess in politics, other factors will play a critical role in determining who wins. The money as well as the party factors.

Ababu has the money but is gunning for the seat in a constituency where voters still identify themselves with ODM.

Wanjala, on the other hand, does not, if I may argue does not have as much money as Ababu but associates himself with ODM, a political outfit that's still a darling of many in the constituency.

Both politicians will have to work extra harder to win the seat.

Jubilee Party, although it will field a candidate has limited chances of emerging victorious as few people identify with it.
