Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi has hit out at former IEBC Commissioner Roselyne Akombe following her resignation on Wednesday.

Speaking when she drummed up support for President Uhuru Kenyatta's reelection in Emuhaya, Vihiga County, Elachi claimed that the electoral official was working under NASA's instructions.

"Akombe's resignation was a long-awaited move as she had showed signs of scuttling the electoral process," she said.

Akombe quit blaming her decision on a divided commission she said was incapable of overseeing credible poll next week.

"The commission in its current state can surely not guarantee a credible election election on October 26, 2017. I do not want to be party to such a mockery to electoral integrity," she said in her resignation statement.

But Elachi downplayed her move saying elections would go on as scheduled.

"In Kenya, we have laws that govern every process and therefore a quorum of five out of seven commissioners is enough to carry on with the polls as planned," she added.

The Speaker further advised the commissioners to remain steadfast even when things are hot and warned them against letting the country sink during this electioneering period.
