A political analyst has brushed off Kanu's move to support President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid claiming it lacks ambition.

Herman Manyora, a don at the University of Nairobi, has  Kanu's move to back President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid saying if itwere a serious party, it would challenge the Jubilee administration in the forthcoming elections instead of supporting them.

"A serious party would not want to join the government. A serious party would want to be in government. I don't thinkKanu is a serious party," he said Thursday during an interview on Citizen TV.

"If you are a serious party you go for power, you do not support others to take power," he said

"Kanu's association with the opposition was a move to irritate Uhuru Kenyatta and this worked and hence Uhuru had to reachout to former President Daniel Moi to talk to Gideon. Kanu never wanted to be in the opposition," he added.

His remarks come after Kanu said it will back Uhuru's re-election bid after its NEC meeting that was held in Nakuru on Thursday.
