The business community has asked Uasin Gishu county governor-elect Jackson Mandago to consider appointing professionals to be in charge of various departments.

This is in what the County's Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice Chairman Willy Kenei said will ensure effectiveness in the running of the departments.

Speaking in Eldoret, Wednesday, Kenei lamented that the Trade department had performed dismally for the past four years following the appointment of a CeC who had no professional understanding of how the department should operate.

He further cautioned the governor-elect against rewarding elections losers with the CeC appointment.

"We have many professionals who should be given a chance to be in charge of various departments especially that of trade and cooperatives because we need an individual whom we as the business community can work with to improve business environment in this town and across the country," said Mr. Kenei.

"The era of rewarding political friends with public office appointments is long gons as people want to get quality services which can only be achieved through employment of professionals in key dockets," he added.

Phillip Melly who unsuccessfully vied for the Uasin Gishu Senate seat in the recently concluded general elections was the Trade CeC for the county since 2013.
