Five people; two police officers and three civilians have been shot dead by armed gunmen in Elwak town, Mandera County.

Mandera south police boss Charles Chacha confirmed the incident.

He told the Nation that the unknown assailants arrived at the bank in Elwak town in a toyota probox and shot dead the 5. 

There are fears that more people were injured in the ambush. 

No one has claimed to be responsible of the attack since Al shabaab militants have been conducting a series of terror attacks in the region.
