Kenya’s athletics head coach Julius Kirwa has expressed confidence in Team Kenya for the August IAAF World Championships in London.

Last week Kenya selected its squad during the national trials held at Nyayo Stadium.

The team has world Olympic champions whom the country will be banking on, to defend its overall title it won in the previous championships in Beijing.

The athletes include world 800m record holder David Rudisha, three-time world 1500m champion Asbel Kiprop, Olympic 5000m silver medallist Hellen Obiri, Olympic 1500m champion Faith Chepng’etich among other top cream runners.

“We are very confident that Kenya will defend its position through the best performances we are anticipating form our athletes. This is the best squad ever,” Kirwa said, Wednesday.

In Beijing, Kenya beat athletic giants Jamaica and US to top the world with 16 medals of 7 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze.

“The morale is high and as defending champions, we will work harder during our training to make sure that they are ready for the championships,” he added.
