[Photo: standardmedia.co.ke]The fact that Kenya is grappling with cholera even in the affluent areas of the national capital, Nairobi, is a show of lack of hygiene in the mind of Kenyan leadership both at the county and the national level.Political analyst Daisy Amdany says that both the county governments and the State have failed completely on sanitation and provision of basic services of hygiene."The reason as to why we have a complete and total breakdown of public health is because for the longest time these governments have not dealt with sanitation issues because our leaders don't get sick from some of these diseases or go to public hospitals which are now paralyzed by the nurses' strike," said Amdany on Citizen TV breakfast show on Friday."Our public health is the way it is because the country's leadership also lacks hygiene of mind. These politicians who are now on the campaign trail dishing out goodies don't even care about the state of healthcare in the country currently. They are promising free healthcare yet the nurses have been on strike for more than two months with nothing seeming to be done," she added. She noted that neither Jubilee nor Nasa have stopped their campaigns to figure out how the country can address the cholera outbreak that is spreading with a lightening speed."What is the difference between Kenya and Yemen which is a failed state and whose health facilities have all been bombarded? They have cholera, we have cholera and to make matters worse in the capital where we just held a series of international meetings. This is a total failure," she said.
