A family member told the press that the boy choked as he tasted the meat to know if it was ready for serving.

He was preparing supper at the time the incident happened in Kisoko village.

The mother of the boy whose identity cannot be revealed for legal and ethical reasons was away and is said to have instructed her son to boil the beef.

The late's younger brother said he struggled to help him to no avail.

"I cannot believe that my brother has just died like that," he said.

"I tried to help him get the piece of meat stuck in his throat but unfortunately it was too late. He died while I am seeing."

His body was taken to the Busia Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
