All alcohol joints in Nakuru North will remain closed from the evening of 6th to 9th August.

In a meeting with the all bar owners, the local administration led by Nakuru North commissioner Mutua Kisilu and area OCPD Edward Masibo have reached a consensus to keep liquor away.

Mutua says the decision is aimed at ensuring all the voters in the area takes part in the Tuesday’s polls conscientiously and with sobriety.

“Hatutaki watu wakose kupiga kura kwa sababu walilewa na kulala hadi vituo vya kupiga kura vikafugwa,” said Mutua. (We do not want people to miss voting because they are drunk).

In agreement, the bar owners have agreed to mobilize their customers to turn up in large numbers and have their say on the ballot.

On his part, Masibo accused the business men of regularly operating their joints in complete disregard of the famous 'Mututho law.'

“Hata kama uko na license, tutachukua hatua ya kisheria ukifungua Bar wakati haufai ama kufunga baada ya saa zilizowekwa kupita,” asserted Masibo. (Even if you have an operating license, we will take legal action against you if you open your bar during the voting hours).

The OCPD sounded a warning to those who will be caught selling alcohol to the minors and that they risk a jail term and losing the operation license.
