Flamboyant Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati says he won't decline calls to serve as Gusii community spokesperson, adding that generational change is inevitable.
Last week, a group of elders led by Gusii Council of Elders chair James Matundura warned of unspecified consequences should Arati go on with installation as elder.
"If Arati want to go on with the plans, then let him do so at his own risk. We can't allow such a function in Kisii," he said.
On Saturday, a group of youths led by Beavon Magare, a close ally of Arati, insisted that preparations to crown Arati were on course.
And in a video streamed from his Nairobi offices, Arati insisted that he will not decline the offer when the right time comes.
"I have heard the suggestions and seen people pushing for it on social media. I respect my elders and I want to tell them to stop panicking," he said in local Kisii dialect.
He further said: "Time has come for youths to take over. Generation change cannot be stopped so there is no need for them to panic."
At a funeral in Nyamira, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i backed Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri for the coveted seat at the expense of Arati.
