The East African Business Council shall hold the 18th EABC Annual General Meeting on Friday 16th June, 2017, at the Serena Hotel, in Kampala, Uganda; to elect the Chair, Vice-Chairs and Members of the EABC Executive Committee. [Photo/courtesy]The members will strategically guide EABCs’ mandate for the period of one year starting June 2017 to May 2018.The AGM is the supreme policy making organ of the East African Business Council (EABC) and meets once a year to elect the Executive Committee headed by the Chairperson and to give overall direction to the Secretariat in line with the Strategic Plan and interests of the business community in East Africa.“In accordance to the rotational principal, the newly appointed chair is expected to come from Uganda” said Lilian Awinja EABC, Executive Director.EABC Board of Directors consists of 22 members headed by a Chairperson, elected from the 5 Partner States in particular Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda on an annual rotational basis.Out of the 22 members four are Vice Chairs from each of the States not holding the Chair hence the vice chairs will come from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania.Overall, each country nominates four Members to the Executive Committee plus the Past Chair and the Executive Director (who is also the Secretary to the Board) are the other 2 members.“As EABC marks the 20th year, the new board of directors will play a critical role in spearheading advocacy on regional trade issues on behalf of the Private Sector in East Africa” said Lilian Awinja EABC, Executive Director.Alongside the AGM the board of directors will pay a Courtesy visit to HE. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of Uganda & Chairperson of the EAC Heads of State Summit.
