Speaking at Leseru mixed secondary school on Wednesday during the closing ceremony, Kimisoi noted that by parents closely monitoring their children, it will help ensure they don't engage in drug abuse and negative social media influence.

He warned that children are delicate at their tender age and need close monitoring from parents or guardians.

“We are releasing these children to you as parents to monitor their coming in and going out. It is not a moment to go visit their relatives and cousins but a moment to relax their minds for a busy second term. There are many cases of drugs and alcohol consumption in the area but this can be stopped by you parents if only you take your responsibilities and play your part,” Misoi posted on his official Facebook page.

He has also mentioned social media and peer influence among the weak points where many children are getting lost and involved in weird behaviors in the society.

"Peer influence has led to drug abuse and drug trafficking in both primary and secondary schools," said the Education Chief officer.

And after the government banned tuition during holidays', Misoi asked parents to ensure that children learn at least two hours a day while at home.
