The Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) organising secretary Sheikh Mohamed Khalifa has called on Kenyans to embrace peace.

On Monday, Sheikh Khalifa said the electioneering period is over and thus Kenyans should resume their daily duties. He said the public should avoid engaging in protests, noting that such actions will endanger innocent lives and also destroy businesses.“These protests will turn our children into orphans, women into widows, and this is not what we want,” said Khalifa during a press conference in Mombasa that was aired by NTV.He said the lives of citizens and Kenya at large are far more important than anything else. The cleric further urged the youth to shun being misused by politicians to cause mayhem. He said what Kenyans need now is peace so that they can engage in nation building. He said the politicians telling Kenyans to boycott work have enough stock in their homes and thus would not be affected like the ordinary Kenyan if businesses remain shut and service delivery halted.“These people have enough stock in their homes the size of a supermarket, are protected by guards unlike the ordinary Kenyan who has to toil every day to put food on the table,” said Khalifa. On Sunday, NASA leader asked Kenyans to boycott work on Monday as they await his ‘big announcement’ on Tuesday.
