A renowned Full Gospel Churches of Kenya evangelist in Kitui was yesterday arraigned in court and charged with two counts of defilement.

Apostle Ezekiel Muendo Kiilu, who ministers at Wikililye centre in Kitui Central, appeared before Principal Magistrate Johnston Munguti where he denied the charges.

The court heard that the man of the cloth allegedly committed the sex offences at his church’s office on February 7, 2017.

He further pleaded not guilty to two alternative charges of indecently touching the minors, aged 13 and 17 years, during perpetration of the alleged unlawful acts.

The court granted him a bond of Sh300,000 plus a similar surety.

While trying to photograph the man of God in the dock, journalists were faced with hostility from his followers who crammed the courtroom in a show of solidarity with their accused spiritual leader.

The faithful accused the reporters of wanting to cast the Apostle in a bad light by carrying stories on the defilement case against him and insisted that he was innocent.

The court directed the prosecution to furnish the defense with the complainants’ medical documents, age assessment reports and any other exhibits it would rely on during the trial.

Hearing of the case was scheduled for April 21.
