Former powerful Cabinet Minister Nicholas Biwott has officially bowed out of active politics.

Biwott who has for the last 14 years kept a low profile made the announcement at his Keiyo South backyard on Tuesday.

The veteran politician served as MP for 28 years after successfully running for and winning the seat of MP in Keiyo South constituency in 1974.

He subsequently served MP for Keiyo-Marakwet between 1983 and 1991.

In 1992, he returned to his former constituency, Keiyo South, and sailed through again during the 1992, 1997 and 2002 elections.

During his time as MP, he served in eight different cabinet positions.

His last appearance in public was during the burial of former Nominated MP Mark Too in Kapseret in early January.

He was born in 1940.
