Youths have a reason to smile as the Ministry of ICT in conjuction with the CDF will set up four ICT hubs in every constituency making it to 1160 hubs nationally so that young people can access online jobs.

The statement was made by ICT Cabinet Secretary, Joe Mucheru who said that the move will help young people to become self-employed in online writing, advertising and transcribing.  The ICT hubs will be set up by the Constituency Development Fund while the ministry of ICT will handle bundle utilization charges in the hubs.

“Members of Parliament are expected to prioritize the project in the proposals for their respective constituencies to the CDF in order to secure funding during the current financial year,” Joe Mucheru said.

In 2016, the ICT ministry started a project dubbed ‘Ajira Digital Platform’ where young people logged into a website where they were provided with free online freelancing training. Through the Ajira Digital training, over 40,000 have so far been able to get software development gigs, online writing and Amazon MTURK jobs.

Currently, there are 11 constituency based ICT hubs with one in Limuru town, two in South Imenti, four in Mathioya, one in Kajiado West, one in Rift Valley  and two in Vihiga.
