Their spokesperson Ngacha Karani said that the veterans were leading a hectic life despite the British Government awarding them trillions for compensation.

“We were awarded compensation by the British government but up to date we are yet to get what is ours,” he said.

They blamed President Uhuru Kenyatta for delaying the compensation process after he failed to append his signature.

According to him the money was already in the World Bank and it was the president who was supposed to append his signature before the money is released.

“A person fights for the independence of a country and as we talk he can’t even afford basic needs, how even that is possible yet the British Government has already paid us our money?” poised Karani.

He asked CORD leader Raila Odinga to help them push the government to pay them their money.

Already veterans from Nyanza are planning a major rally with a bid aimed at asking Kenyans not to participate in the next general elections.

Nyanza regional chair Omete Nyanchoka said that they were not going to relent on the push against the Government until they were paid their monies.

“We did a lot for Kenya and we don’t deserve the treatment the state is giving us,” said Nyanchoka.

In 2013, Britain agreed to compensate thousands of Kenyans tortured by colonial forces during the Mau Mau uprising with sh 1.8 billion.
