George Manangoi send the Moi Stadium Kasarani crowd into frenzy to earn Kenya the first gold medal at the ongoing IAAF World Under-18 Championships in Nairobi.

Manangoi opened the gold purse adding to the silver medal won by Emmaculate Chepkirui in the girls’ 3000m on Wednesday.

Manangoi clocked 3:47.53 for gold beating Ethiopia’s Abebe Dessassa to second in 3:48.65 and Belete Mekonen 3:50.44 in third.

As that was not over, Caren Chebet and Mercy Chepkurui continued the hunting spree winning gold and silver in the girls’ 2000m steeplechase.

Chebet timed 6:24.80 to win gold defeating Chepkurui who finished 6:26.10 in second and Ethiopia’s Etalemahu Sintayehu timed 6:35.79 for bronze.

Mary Moraa striked unexpected silver medal in the 400m girls final timing 53.31 personal best time as Barbora Malikova of Czech Republic won gold and Giovana Dos Santos of Brazil took bronze.
