Another substitute, John “Softie” Ndirangu put the icing on Gor’s cake when he buried Leopards with the third in the first minute of added time.“The Blues will face Gor Mahia FC next month and become the first EPL team to play in Tanzania,” Everton wrote on their official Twitter handle minutes after the final. The match capped a memorable week for the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) leaders who have recorded identical 2-0 wins against Jang’ombe of Zanzibar and Kenya’s Nakuru All-Stars in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively while Ingwe reached the final following victories on penalties against Singida and Yanga (both of Tanzania) after 1-1 and barren draws in the last eight and last four in that order.Gor striker Meddie Kagere won the Golden Boot Award after notching three goals, two in the quarter-finals and one in the semis, while team-mate Peter Odhiambo claimed the Golden Gloves gong for not conceding in the entire tournament.Besides the rare chance of facing Everton, the victory also came with a Sh3 million cash prize for K’Ogalo while Leopards pocketed Sh1 million for their efforts.Defeat for Leopards also confirmed the difficult task facing new coach Romanian Dorian Marin as he seeks to revive the faded giant, who sit 12th in the league table, after a poor first leg of the season.
