Twaha said he will push for the establishment of a Kenya Defense Force (KDF) base at Panadanguo area in Lame West constituency.

The move is aimed at boosting security around Boni Forest, which is said to be an Al-Shabaab hide out.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday in Lamu, Twaha blamed his predecessors for allegedly opposing the establishment of the base; a move he says has contributed to the increase in al-Shabaab attacks in the county.

“I understand security is key for development and that’s why I will support the establishment of a KDF base in Pandanguo like the government had earlier requested. It’s for the greater good of Lamu,” said Twaha.

The Governor-elect also said he will not become a stumbling block in the government’s efforts to enhance security in Lamu and restore the county’s lost glory.

“I will personally do all I can to ensure insecurity becomes just a distant memory for Lamu. I will allow the government to do their bit in ensuring the security of my people and not like my predecessor who frustrated everything,” said Twaha, as quoted by Baraka Fm.

He further pledged to unite all communities living in the county in a bid to boost economic growth.
