[Photo: Amason Kingi]The county government of Kilifi has put in place mechanisms to improve agricultural produce by providing proper training to farmers as immediate measures to boost yields.Governor Amason Kingi indicated agriculture is one of the prioritised agenda by his administration, since the County has an agricultural area accounting to 65 per cent of fertile lands. "Agricultural produce has however been dodging us due to poor and outdated agricultural practices over the years," he said.During a meeting with local leaders from Sokoke Ward, Ganze Sub-county, Kingi stressed on the importance of embracing modern techniques as the county government, continues to supply them with free planting seed, fertilisers and other farm inputs. "Already over 1,000 farmers in Sokoke Ward have benefited through this program. In the long term measures, my administration has successfully embarked on an ambitious irrigation project at Mangudho in Vitengeni location to ensure we are food secure."In the health sector, Kingi said his administration had improved health facilities through the construction of the Mrima wa Ndege maternity wing, refurbished the Vitengeni dispensary and equipped the Dida dispensary. "We have also constructed the Uwanja wa Ndege and Bale dispensaries. All these measures are geared at bringing health services closer to Wananchi. It’s important to note all these projects are being carried out by my administration in consultation with the Local residents."
