[Photo/Courtesy]Passion fruit farming in Uasin Gishu county has been embraced by many who feel the plant is the most beneficial.Most of them plant in small pieces of land and get great returns. Margaret Tuitoek, a farmer in Kimumu Eldoret said she used to get huge returns back in 2015 under the selling of passion fruit seedlings. She could make thousands of shillings in a day as many farmers flocked to her nursery garden to buy grafted passion fruits. However she is not undertaking the business now as her farm is being upgraded on Ph levels and has to be given sometime to rest.Several farmers said they prefer the fruit to other fruit trees such as Mangoes since it has high demand thus ready market. Moreover, the fruit stays longer before getting badThe initial capital is big but afterwards the profits are realised and with proper management, harvesting can go for more than two years. The requirements for starting a passion fruit garden are simple. One needs to be dedicated and hardworking. A small piece of land of a quarter an acre can return big profits. Kibet from Kimumu says he has been educating his children from the sales got from his a sixteenth acre of land.
