The tourism sector at the Coast has received a major boost after Italian airline Blue Panorama resumed flights from Milan to Mombasa.

According to the crew, the airline will be operating three flights per week between the two destinations, as the State puts in place measures to ensure high number of tourists in the Coastal region. One of the airline’s aircraft on Monday touched down at the Moi International Airport in Mombasa with 112 tourists on board from Milan in Italy. Blue Panaroma withdrew its flights in 2011 following security concerns after the nation suffered incessant attacks by Al-Shabaab militia. The airline’s management has assured the government that the company will continue offering flights to the region.Although the high tourism season kicked off in mid July, hotels in the Coast region have been facing low occupancy. The national and county governments have been working together to ensure there is a high number of tourists coming to the nation. Malindi and Watamu stand to reap most from the new changes.
