The 'Man Of The People' as he calls himself surprised many in Old Town Mombasa when he parked his car along Abdel Nasser Road to greet school children who were on their way home.

Business came to a standstill as the governor pulled his Range Rover to a pavement before he called the two girls who were walking along the pavement.

Joho, for the last two weeks has operated without bodyguards after the government withdrew them following his confrontation with President Uhuru Kenyatta during his last trip to Mombasa.

Although the bodyguards were reinstated later, he rejected the move and told the security officers to pack and leave.

He said he was better of living without them.

He argued that the security personnel were deployed to spy on him.

Social media went crazy as people showered the county chief with praise when photos showing him popping his head out of the car and talking to the two girls made rounds.

Joho is expected to have an easy ride in defending his seat in August.
