ODM acting Secretary General Agnes Zani in a statement sent to newsrooms on Saturday said the party was aware how the Jubilee Party officials organised to hire the goons to disrupt Mr Odinga's meeting.

She said Jubilee's dictatorial tendencies will not intimidate the opposition.

"Kenya is a democracy and all Kenyans have the right to assemble and rally anywhere in the country," Zani said.

"Kenyans are struggling with an ever rising national debt, unprecedented levels of corruption, a broken national security system and an electoral infrastructure that exposes us to divisions, hence the actions of the hired youth shows that the Jubilee government is not interested in the welfare of Kenyans."

Raila is on a three-day tour of Turkana to drum up for the Mass Voter Registration.

On his first day of the tour, however, armed youth stormed the meeting he held at Katilia and disrupted it.

Raila, who after fleeing Katilia accompanied by Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok, however, addressed a rally at Lokichar.

He accused a local politician allied to Jubilee of hiring the goons.

"We were with Nanok at Katilia when a leader incited the youth who came with firearms and stones," Raila said.

"They shot at the crowd. They were shooting at the crowd while the police tried to disperse them by shooting in the air. They were saying that they do not want the baraza to go on. It is stupid to disrupt people's meetings and cause chaos."

Turkana is one of the counties in the country where residents own illegal guns.

The county is characterized by cattle rustling.
