At least three students lost their lives, following a grisly road accident in Kaptimbor in the outskirts of Kabarnet town, Baringo county, Friday morning.

A school bus belonging to AGC Lokichar Secondary School was ferrying students to Turkana County schools, when a driver lost control, and veered off the road.

According to Baringo County Police Commander Peter Ndung'u, the bus was ferrying students who had participated in regional school games held in Baringo.

Ndung'u said preliminary investigations showed the 66-seater school bus hit a guard rail, rolled several times, landing in a ditch.

"The roof of the bus was ripped off on impact. Students’ personal effects were strewn all over the scene," he told a local daily.

The injured students were rushed to Baringo County Referral Hospital, even though it is not yet clear how many passengers were on board.

Bodies of the deceased were taken to the Baringo County Referral Hospital mortuary.
