The latest move by two senior Kamba leaders to support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election shows that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka is the only key politician from the region keen on remaining in the Opposition. Over the weekend, National Assembly Minority Leader Francis Nyenze praised President Kenyatta’s development record, asking the Kamba people to support him in the August 8 general election. Mr Nyenze, a key Wiper official and one of the members who picked the NASA presidential line-up, said the President’s Jubilee administration had done well in its efforts to empower the youth, women, people with disabilities and general development. “If somebody does well to you, you can’t forget. Can you forget those who have done well like Uhuru Kenyatta?” Nyenze said. “Let’s not be swayed by politics of empty rhetoric by those alleging President Uhuru hasn’t worked well. The truth is Uhuru has done a lot and we’ll elect those whose work can be seen,” he added. Later, former Wiper party chairman David Musila, considered to be an elder in Kamba politics, threw his support behind President Kenyatta. “Vote for me as an independent candidate, elect Uhuru without minding his party,” Mr Musila, who is running for the Kitui gubernatorial seat, said during a campaign rally. Mr Musila fell out with NASA presidential candidate Kalonzo Musyoka after he was rigged out in favor of Julius Malombe in the shambolic Wiper primaries. Traditionally, the Kamba people have always been in government. It was only during the 2013-2017 period when Kalonzo misled them to CORD, but former Lands Cabinet Secretary was wise to team up with President Kenyatta. She ensured the Kitui people remained in government. Majority of the Kamba MPs already support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election, a strong indicator that they have seen who will form the next government. Some of the Wiper MPs from Ukambani who support Jubilee include: Joe Mutambu (Mwingi Central), Richard Makenga (Kaiti), John Munuve (Mwingi North), Regina Ndambuki (Kilome), Kisoi Munyao (Mbooni) and Charles Nyamai (Kitui West). Other MPs are Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town) of CCU, Francis Mwangangi (Yatta) of Muungano, Vincent Musyoka (Mwala) of CCU, Rachael Nyamai (Kitui South) of Narc, and Itwiku Mbai (Masinga) of Ford People. These leaders appreciate the President’s development record and want to be in government in order to develop their region even more. With this trend, Mr Musyoka will most likely be the only leader from the region in NASA.
