Kilifi governor hopeful Kazungu Kambi has said it will be a mistake for residents to endorse Governor Amason Kingi’s re-election bid on August 8.

Addressing supporters at Malindi Town on Sunday, Kambi said Kingi does not deserve re-election, as he has "mismanaged the county by failing to provide direction."The former Labour Cabinet Secretary said Kingi must be voted out because he allegedly cannot account for the billions of shillings the county has been receiving from the national government.Kambi alleged that corruption is rife in Kingi’s administration which is in turn to blame for poor development in the county.“Governor Kingi should tell Kilifi people what he has done for them with the billions he has been getting from the national government,” said Kambi, as quoted by the StandardHe further accused Kingi of starving residents, saying the governor has done little to address the famine situation in the county.“The governor’s food security policies are pathetic and have exposed locals to perennial hunger,” said Kambi. The former CS also hit out at Kingi, accusing him of failing to create employment, adding that thousands of youth are languishing in unemployment which has hindered realization of development. He urged residents to reject Kingi amid claims that he has been engaging in tribalism and nepotism which has led to some communities in the county being sidelined in terms of resource allocation.Kambi, who will be vying for the seat on a Kadu Asili Party ticket, said Kingi should be voted out because the county’s economic status has deteriorated under his watch. He claimed that the governor’s poor economic policies have scared away potential investors.“Kingi is a failure who does not deserve re-election and must be voted out at all costs,” he said.Kambi asked residents to make wise decisions by voting for leaders who will transform the county. He appealed to locals to endorse his bid saying he has the solution to all their problems.Kingi, however, dismissed Kambi’s claims terming them as mere propaganda. He said his competitors have no agenda and cannot be trusted with leadership.
